The Internet is a very useful source of information. We use it almost every day for research or just to get access to information. It didn’t take long for the gambling industry to also use this medium. Online gambling is increasing at a staggering rate even if its history is still as new as the Internet itself. Internet gamblers may be more likely to have a serious gambling problem than other gamblers, say researchers. Unlike traditional gambling, the Internet lets the gambler engage in this activity in the comforts of their home. These sites are open 24/7 so you can play for hours with short breaks like going to the bathroom or getting some food. If you sit in front of the computer for hours, you are indeed a gambling addict. What is worse is that teenagers that have access to the web will also play it and become addicts themselves. When you are gambling using the Internet, no one will know your age. Your son or daughter could get your credit card details then wreak havoc, which you won’t realize until the bill comes at the end of the month. The only thing bad about online gambling is that you don’t get your money immediately after winning. They will find some way to make you stay to get back the money you earned and that is another reason why there are people who play for long periods of time. Gambling online has become so successful that some people in government have passed a bill to put it out of business. You have to remember that although this is a new medium, the effects of those who are unable to exhibit control is also damaging. Money is lost, the addict will probably get fired and families are broken. In fact, treatment for those that have become addicts is the same. The gambler will have to admit it was a mistake to have committed such an act and be willing to do whatever it takes in order to shape up. Support groups that are designed to help addicts can also be found online. There are quite a few around so find out the nearest to where you live and the schedule of their meetings so you can drop by and have a look. The Internet is a very useful tool and money can be made or lost by logging into a gambling site and playing one of their games. Because almost every US household has a computer, some predict that the number of addicts here will be much higher than those who go to the casino. A terrible prediction it truly is when in the beginning, you probably did this on your spare time but the longer you get hooked, things change and it will begin to affect your daily routine. Best advice for those who want to play online is to be careful and not get carried away by the excitement. If you do, it won’t be long before you have also become an online gambling addict yourself. |
